A people friendly budget, says PBB Youth economic chief

KUCHING: PBB Youth Economic Bureau chief Pandi Suhaili sang praises of the newly announced budget as being a people friendly budget that aims to improve the welfare of the rakyat.

He pointed out that the government’s decision to allocate a sum of RM33.2 billion as subsidies and incentives shows that the government always cares for the rakyat.

“Many will be glad to hear about this because without government’s subsidies, some items are going to be really expensive for the rakyat,” he said when contacted yesterday.

He added the decision also brushed aside the fear among the rakyat that the government will do away with subsidies as a way to reduce the government’s spending.

Pandi, who is also the PBB vice youth chief, welcomed the move to increase the salaries of government’s employees from RM80 to RM320 in accordance to their grade.

Quick action to address chicken shortage goes well with consumers

KUCHING: PBB Youth Bureau Economy chief Pandi Suhaili welcomes the disclosure made by the Deputy Minister of Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Datuk Rohani Abdul Karim that the government has taken steps to address the shortage of chicken in the market.

He said many consumers experienced relief with the disclosure because the average price of chicken currently hovers between RM8.50 and RM9.50 per kg, which is costly.

“We hope that the ministry can act fast to normalise market price with steps that would address the matter,” he said when contacted yesterday.

He also hoped that the rakyat would be patient as the government is now making serious efforts to bring down the price for the benefit of the people in Sarawak.

“As usual the oppositions will be quick to blame the increase of the price of chicken on the government.

Islamic chamber of commerce lauds decision to maintain price

KUCHING: Sarawak Branch Malaysian Islamic Chamber of Commerce (DPIMCS) welcomed the Barisan Nasional government’s decision to maintain the prices of RON95 petrol, diesel and liquefied petroleum gas for the time being.

Its state chairman Haidel Heli said the decision clearly showed that the government is really concerned about the people’s welfare.

“Many people are going to be affected if the government had decided otherwise because the RON95 petrol and diesel are widely used by the people,” he said.

He added the business community had also been spared from hardship because of the government’s decision.

“On behalf of our members, we wish to thank the government for its decision to maintain the prices,” he said.

Home Minister’s words reassure PBB Youth

KUCHING: The Parti Pesaka Bumiutera Bersatu (PBB) Youth movement thanked the Home Ministry for giving assurance that it would not leave any stones unturned in its investigation into the operation of Radio Free Sarawak (RFS).

Vice youth chief Pandi Suhaili said the movement felt relief with this assurance because it wants the radio station to stop from broadcasting its malicious lies to the rakyat.

“We are living in a multi-racial state by which it is of great importance for all of us to have a good relationship with all communities in order to have a peaceful life.

“Therefore, we must not condone any act of planting the seeds of hatred among the rakyat by irresponsible party such as RFS,” he said when met yesterday.

On Tuesday, Home Minister Datuk Seri Hishammudin Tun Hussein was quoted as saying the ministry would investigate into the operation of the radio station because “I want Malaysia to be safe.”

Masing: PRS doesn’t agree with Tedwin

KUCHING: Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) does not agree with its former deputy information chief Tedwin Ngumbang that the party was being bullied by Chief Minister Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud.

In an SMS to The Borneo Post, PRS president Dato Sri Dr James Masing said: “PRS does not agree with Tedwin’s point of view, so we advised him to resign. He did.”

Masing, who was commenting on Tedwin’s claim made to the media on Monday, however, did not say when Tedwin resigned from the party that he had helped form in 2004.

On Monday, it was reported that the former deputy information chief had resigned from the party because he wanted to serve Sarawak National Party (SNAP).

An insider was quoted as saying Tedwin had exhausted all his usefulness in PRS, and that prompted him to leave the party despite the claim that he was still in good term with Masing.
